He already told her initially to back off and that he was in love. So obviously he wasn't looking to actively CHEAT on you. However, you actively cheated on him so what he did is nothing compared to what you did to him. Men get carried away sometimes when women tempt them like that. Like he told you, he was shocked and got caught up in the moment. He's human. He didn't go out looking to cheat on you. It's forgiveable.

It's not a frequent occurrence. I've had two boyfriends take the "storm out" approach. One was 5 years ago and he was an alcoholic that would pick fights and then leave because he had a quick temper, or he would get very upset if I asked him about where he had been. If this is an isolated incident, then keep your eyes and ears open for a while and just hang back to see if he lies again. If he has a pattern of lying, or if this is why you guys have had trust issues in the past, then you might as well cut your losses now and move on. My last ex was a habitual liar. It was not fun.
